Program of our coming event

Coming up in 2018
“Vienna Tradition,” a program  of music by Viennese composers. The concert will include music by Mozart and Haydn, and will feature Johannes Brahms’ lovely “Variations On a Theme by Haydn.” The piece is groundbreaking, as the first set of independent variations for orchestra, and in it Brahms is developing his mastery of orchestration and compositional technique, that one will hear in his symphonies.
Ironically, that theme is most likely not by Haydn, but Brahms’
admiration for the earlier master was completely genuine. He studied Haydn’s works, and even bought the piano from Haydn’s estate for his own use.
